Ben one month after Training!
Good morning from Texas and an update on Ben. This sweet Kerry was a gift to us from George before he passed away a few years ago. This Puppy has become my husbands constant friend. Never apart… they sleep together, eat together and now after training walk all the time!
Ben has some “walking” issues on a leash as some Kerries’ do. He arrived as we were coming out of the COVID years and we had our Kerry Blue Annie as well. She never EVER walked nicely on a leash… ever. Even after training. A finished show dog… she kept Tuesday Hannah alert!! But on one evening, Hubby opened the garaged door as he came out of the house with Annie to walk… and she spotted a dog across the street walking. uh oh… yes … she pulled my husband down face first on our driveway in her urgent need to attend to dealing with the intruder …and after that he stopped trying to walk her. In our 70s we really have to watch unexpected falls. So Ben went to training two months ago…. and he truly is better. Not better spotting another dog, but better if you walk when no one else is walking! We may have to revisit training again soon.
He is better on watching TV. He loves to watch TV but is noisy with any movements of people or animals, which is basically all the time. He came home from Training about 50-60 percent better and we are still working on it!
What Ben is, is the SWEETEST Kerry we have ever owned. He is joyful, playful and very loving. We will forever be grateful to Tuesday and George for this boy. I thnk he takes after Kerry Daddy. The Foundation is always tickled to get notes from our friends and followers. Supporting the Kerry Blue Rescue seems to keep us all busy and only together with you can we make it all happen. We would love getting to meet some of you if you are traveling in the state where some of us live. There is not a ‘Foundation Office’ because there is not extra money to have a brick and mortar office, or even a rescue farm with Kerry happiness abounding everywhere!
When you are traveling and we are out of Covid restrictions, all who serve on the board are spread through out the country and sometimes we are available to meet and greet with you and share our love for this beautiful breed. Once a Kerry owner, always a Kerry owner!

The Magnificent Seven (or the Kerry Summer in Strange Times)
During the summer most are vacationing, traveling or doing things at leisure.
One of our magnificent seven Kerry Blue Terrier Rescues this summer!
It must the the Kerry Summer in Strange Times!
During the summer most are vacationing, traveling or doing things at leisure. However, due to the pandemic, this past summer was different. Many had to put vacation as well as travel plans on hold. However, like some, The Kerry Blue Terrier Foundation kept pressing on. This past summer, the Kerry Blue Terrier Foundation was quite busy with seven absolutely adorable kerries.
Here is how our summer unfolded. The foundation was notified by a family member that a Kerry breeder had recently passed away. Arrangements had to be made to obtain the dogs left behind. After numerous emails, phone calls and texts, the foundation received three dogs, Muffet aged 10, Darcy aged 9 and Bond, aged 4.
Sounds easy, right? Nothing could be more wrong. These babies were located in Indiana, sight unseen, medical history questionable, personalities unknown. With much networking, a Kerry enthusiast was able to secure pictures and perform quick personality assessments. Next step-transportation, vetting, evaluation and placement. A few days later a former rescue coordinator emailed with an alert about a Kerry in the shelter in Illinois.
The process began over again. This time, medical information and personality assessments were available. The number of dogs needing transport rose to 4. Fortunately, the same Kerry advocate had an application on file with the Kbtf and met the criteria to adopt Muffet- one of the Indiana 3.
Then something really fantastic happened. Transportation was set up to move the two remaining Indiana kerries and the Illinois Kerry to Savannah Georgia. And then along came Grizz, yet another Kerry who needed to find a new home who also lived in Georgia. For those counting, we’re at 4. As always, our rescue team started with applications on file. Reviewing applications for these dogs was also a tedious process. The pandemic has reeked havoc on many, causing several long time Kerry owners to relinquish their beloved Kerry to the foundation. Medical records and personality were known. Are you still counting? Yes number 6. If you thought that was all, you are wrong again. Another untimely death of a Kerry owner/ breeder left Violet without a home. George Hanna, President of the KBTF, was scheduled for a business trip in Brick, New Jersey. George personally transported each rescue to their adoptive families on his trip north, communicating en route with each family.

Often times things happen in rescue rather quickly and all involved have to act quickly. The foundation managed to move six of the seven dogs in a matter of weeks. Hours and hours of strategic planning involved picking up from Indiana and and Illinois, evaluations and observations completed, home checks performed, and appropriate forever homes found. Tons and tons of talent and time donated by our volunteers. That is why you don’t always see posts of all dogs rescued. When it is determined that your home is the best fit, you will receive a call, text or email.
The foundation swings into action to get rescued dogs into their forever homes as quickly as possible. A swift process makes for less stress for an already traumatized dog. Rescuing a dog is not always easy, nor is it cheap. The foundation picks up the expenses for dental, spay/ neutering , medical procedures as well as transport. The foundation asks for a donation to adopt these dog. The donation is based on the age of the dog. The expenses to transport these dogs, vet and evaluated far exceeds the donations asked.

We could not have rescued the “ Magnificent Seven” without you. FRONT PAGE… the front page has almost everything in a nutshell that can be accessed on your phone except filling out the adoption application. That is done only on the Adopt page. On the front page you can connect with everything on the website just scrolling through the photos. Everything changes as Instagram gets new photos, or new blogs get articles! Stay in touch and check in.
Donations… On the Donation page, you now have so many options. Donation Page has a direct donation to the foundation and the choice to do a subscription monthly. Not a bad idea to do $10 a month or $25 a month and you can cancel it at any time. You can also Write a Tribute for your Kerry Blue and we will share your personal story and please submit a photo. It was truly amazing all the photos submitted for the 2021 KBTF Calendar.
The calendar helps fund the foundation. We do not make very much money out of it, but we love having them to use year round celebrating the beauty of our dogs and their great individual personalities. The involvement of the Kerry Community is fabulous and this year we have a spectacular group of Kerry Blues on our pages.
Stay on the watch because we will have them available really soon.

Presence in our lives… The Kerry Blue is highly intelligent and normally figures things out before we do.
Gratitude…Gratitude has the biggest impact on all of us… and believe me no other dog shows gratitude quite the same way as a Kerry Blue. They teach us so many lessons in life, and the biggest for me is kicking back and letting go.
Physical Well Being - We need to take care of our mind and body and the secret to that is owning a Kerry Blue Terrier. I have … hmmm… I really cannot count as we added puppies and some rescues to my brood. * I will get back to you on that after I consult Tuesday. Getting sleep is easy if you like four dogs in the bed.
Generosity.. They say we should give as much as we can, and that is easy to do with a Blue. They give the biggest smiles and the warmest kisses.
Positivity - That is always easy when you are licked awake in the morning by your best friends… or puppies rather. There is NO ROOM for negativity in our lives.
