Training the Kerry Blue

Good morning from Texas and an update on Ben. This sweet Kerry was a gift to us from George before he passed away a few years ago. This Puppy has become my husbands constant friend. Never apart… they sleep together, eat together and now after training walk all the time!

Ben has some “walking” issues on a leash as some Kerries’ do. He arrived as we were coming out of the COVID years and we had our Kerry Blue Annie as well. She never EVER walked nicely on a leash… ever. Even after training. A finished show dog… she kept Tuesday Hannah alert!! But on one evening, Hubby opened the garaged door as he came out of the house with Annie to walk… and she spotted a dog across the street walking. uh oh… yes … she pulled my husband down face first on our driveway in her urgent need to attend to dealing with the intruder …and after that he stopped trying to walk her. In our 70s we really have to watch unexpected falls. So Ben went to training two months ago…. and he truly is better. Not better spotting another dog, but better if you walk when no one else is walking! We may have to revisit training again soon.

He is better on watching TV. He loves to watch TV but is noisy with any movements of people or animals, which is basically all the time. He came home from Training about 50-60 percent better and we are still working on it!

What Ben is, is the SWEETEST Kerry we have ever owned. He is joyful, playful and very loving. We will forever be grateful to Tuesday and George for this boy. I thnk he takes after Kerry Daddy.
