A Lucky Unlucky Dog Named Curly

Meet Curly…

Meet Curley, who is a very lucky unlucky dog.  Found on the streets, he had matted and infected eyes, 21 loose teeth, and was still intact at seven years old. University students found him, and dropped him at a vet. Looking at his face from the shelter picture, you see a somewhat dejected Kerry. And this is where he got very, very lucky. A concerned citizen found us through our webpage, and Stephanie Moore, our Rescue Director, worked her magic. As always, however, this magic took a lot of work and a few snags!

Our Kerry angel pampered Curley to get him from 28 to 32 pounds, adding probiotics to help with his loose stools caused by the antibiotics. An experienced rescue person (although this was her first time meeting a Kerry!), she also did a great initial evaluation and prepped him for a plane ride to his foster home. Success!

Then the major snag: the airport closest to her stopped flying dogs two days before she was sending him to foster. Without a foster home within driving distance, it appeared our option was a very expensive transport service. Not something within our means, but …. how could we turn away a Kerry in need??!!  This is when our Kerry angel really earned her wings. She drove four hours each way to get him to an airport that was still accepting pets and had a direct flight.

Stephanie was waiting at the other end of the flight and confirmed that he is a wonderful dog! Although he does not seem to know his name, he is house trained and well mannered. He is excitable around other dogs but loves his pack at Stephanie’s home.  He is loving the praise heaped on him and is a talker: he probably is trying to say, “thank you!” As you may expect, his coat is beautiful and… curly. He is camera shy and always on the move; we will post an updated picture when he gets a proper grooming after the holidays!  He even has an adoptive home: an experienced Kerry home, eager to adopt a seven-year-old with only a few teeth left.

While we love happy endings, they require monetary support as well as our volunteer angels. Please, if you can consider a year end donation or ongoing monthly support, you’ll be helping souls like Curley. Our next story will be Bree...another Kerry who needed help getting to her rightful home. Please click through the donate button below or navigate from our top nav bar to donate. Thank you!
